Executive Leadership and Management in International Education

With a strong practical but conceptually based focus this seminar series will facilitate dialogue between industry role models and participants, and will incorporate learning from best practice and issues (e.g. political sensitivity acumen, people management, etc).

This executive seminar series has been developed jointly by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) and the Martin Institute to assist the next generation of international education leaders to achieve the visionary, entrepreneurial, strategic and executive level management skills required to ensure continuing success in international education.

Leading in Complexity - Change

An intensive three day residential program

The tertiary education sector is a unique, complex and changing environment in which to lead and manage. The course combines frameworks and tools with practical applications to real situations.

Participants will examine the lessons learned (positive and negative) from amalgamations, downsizing, reengineering, de/centralizing and reconfiguring that have taken place in the sector; and the approaches to the complex processes of communication, effective and time efficient consulting and genuine engagement of staff .

Throughout there will be opportunities to share and learn from the experiences and expertise of a national group of colleagues.

Leading Learning for Institutional Change - student engagement, assessment & institutional improvement

A symposium for senior leaders responsible for designing and managing change regarding student engagement, assessment & institutional improvement

The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and the Martin Institute are pleased to present this symposium on Leading Learning for Institutional Change. Documenting what students learn, know and can do is of growing interest to universities, quality assurance agencies, policy makers, students and employers. For leaders, the capacity to monitor and enhance learning is playing an increasingly vital role in shaping effective institutional change.

Professor George Kuh, Director of National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA), Founding Director of National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Director of the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University, will guide you through:

  • contemporary perspectives on educational quality and success
  • strategies for evaluating information needs and sources
  • processes for interpreting evidence of student learning, and
  • how to structure evidence-based institutional change.
